“Be Able to Accept Help”

The fifth day's theme of Rev. Fr. John Bryan Samson is being able to accept help from God, and subsequently from other people. When we are young, we are more dependent on Him, but as we become older, we forget to ask for his assistance; our inability to accept help is our downfall. Asking Him for assistance does not mean weakness; rather, it is natural to need God's guidance.

“Sino ba ang mas dakila sa Diyos? Wala, dahil ang Diyos ang pinaka dakila sa lahat.”
(Who is more holy than God? No one, as God is the most holy of all.)

Since we are all in need of God's assistance, we have nothing to be proud of. As we get older and more knowledgeable about the world, we get the false notion that we can live without God; the truth is, life cannot be without Him.

We depend on the Lord in the same way that a child depends on his parents. It is a misconception that children can only have guardian angels. But Father said, “See that you do not despise the little one for I say to you that angels in heaven always look upon the face of thy heavenly Father.” This reminds us that we all need God’s help as much as the children do.

'Ang anghel ay nasa tabi lang, para bantayan kayo, dahil lahat kayo ay dependent [sa Diyos].'
(Angels are always around, to keep watch over you, because you are all dependent [on God].)

Father made it clear that no mortal can be independent from God; therefore, He sent guardian angels to guide and protect us humans. We are always in need of guidance from God, according to Father John.

Father John highlighted the virtue of being humble. We must never let pride take precedence in our hearts.

'Wag Gumanti.'
(Do not take revenge.)

There is no need for revenge, but there is always a need for love and care. God Himself demonstrated love and care to us sinners, so why can't His children do the same? When you turn away from the guidance of the Lord, He is always there to welcome you back. You are God's child, His creation. He knows what is best for you.

As we become older, our beliefs change. We start to think that we can succeed without the assistance of God. We make poor decisions as a result of forgetting to pray and asking God for guidance.

od is indeed aware of our weakness and our inability to resist temptation, which is why he sent us a guardian angel.

We all make mistakes, but it doesn't make us failures; instead, it deepens our relationship with God. Nowadays, it seems like there are a lot of temptations luring us to make poor decisions. It’s not difficult for mortals to ask assistance from others, but why is it so difficult to ask genuinely from our Lord?

That’s why Father said, “You ask the Lord to help and enlighten you kapag nahihirapan ka.”
(You ask the Lord for help and enlightenment when you are struggling.)

God is here with us. When we reach our breaking points, pray for his assistance. He will undoubtedly lead you in the right direction.
